History & Background

The Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) is one of Africa’s most iconic antelope species. Its name comes from the indigenous Khoikhoi word kudu. Historically revered by tribes and hunters alike, the kudu has long symbolised agility, awareness and survival in the African bush. Mature bulls can grow enormous spiral horns used for dominance displays and protection.

Location, Area & Habits

Kudu thrive in southern and eastern Africa, favouring bushveld regions, mopane woodland and rugged savannah. Nicknamed the Grey Ghost, they rely on camouflage and stealth rather than speed to evade predators. Bulls are mostly solitary or found in small bachelor groups, moving quietly through thick cover and often disappearing before being seen.
