History & Background

Jackals belong to the genus Canis and are closely related to wolves, coyotes and domestic dogs. Found throughout Africa and parts of Eurasia, jackals have long featured in folklore as symbols of intelligence and adaptability. Species such as the black-backed jackal and side-striped jackal are well known across southern Africa, often seen trailing predators or hunting rodents and small antelope.
